Sub-Series A: Prints, 1926 - 1998

This sub-series is comprised of black and white and color photographic prints of various sizes. These include reproductions of early 20th century images, photographic prints mounted on mat board and foamcore, and enlarged photographs. The images are individually sleeved and labeled with any available contextual information. Photographs document Dr. Hector P. Garcia’s personal life (through portraits and candid shots), awards and honors, wedding, honeymoon, military career, involvement with the American GI Forum (AGIF), and interactions with various local, national, and international figures. AGIF images make up a significant portion of the sub-series; they span from the organization’s creation in 1948 to the 1990s and cover a wide range of events and activities. Other major subjects in this sub-series include recipients of the “Among the Valiant” book, various Corpus Christi institutions, the Delgado versus Bastrop legal team, funerals, Garcia family members, the Mathis schools and labor camps, police brutality cases, the United Nations, the US Commission on Civil Rights (USCCR), Valley Farm marchers, the Viva Kennedy Clubs, and World War II. Some of the notable individuals documented in this sub-series include Lloyd Bentsen, Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter, James De Anda, Henry B. Gonzales, Hubert H. Humphrey, Gilbert Jasso, Lyndon B. Johnson, John and Robert Kennedy, Felix Longoria, Joseph Montoya, Solomon P. Ortiz, Domingo Pena, Franklin D. Roosevelt Jr., Sargent Shriver, Louis Tellez, Abelardo Lopez Valdez, Mark White, and Vincente Ximenes. Some images have corresponding negatives located in Sub-Series B: Negatives.
