General, 1962-07
This sub-series is comprised of correspondence received and sent by Dr. Hector P. Garcia as the founder and chairman of the American G.I. Forum. The correspondence is primarily related to Forum activities and events, as well as requests for help from veterans, and invitations for Dr. Garcia to speak on behalf of the Forum. Subjects also include civil rights topics regarding veterans’ rights, education, and the Mexican-American community. In addition to letters received and carbon copies of letters sent, much of the correspondence includes enclosures such as meeting minutes and notes, statements, reports, or clippings. Other material types include press releases, newsletters, memoranda, and telegrams. Groups of AGIF-related documents that were not included as enclosures for correspondence are filed within Sub-Series H, Chronological Files. Some AGIF correspondence may be filed throughout Series II: Correspondence and some of the topics covered are also documented in Series VI: Latino Activism.
