Isidro Guzman Papers

Abstract

Isidro Guzman Jr., a Catalog Librarian, left his collection of Mexican American publications and papers to Special Collections and Archives at TAMU-CC in 1991. They include Texas Knights of Columbus Historical Commission records, the Hi-Fairnessee Girls Club publications and local newspapers dating from 1926-1975.

Abstract

This collection is comprised of documentation from the court case Cisneros v. Corpus Christi ISD. This case established Hispanic Americans as a minority separate from the white classification and helped undo some major systemic racism problems that still lingered a decade and a half after Brown v. the Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas legally ended school segregation.

The Lee Govatos Family Papers focus on the life and work of his father, John Govatos and the family restaurant business from 1925 though 1960 in Corpus Christi.
