The John W. Tunnell, M.D. Texana collection consists of over three hundred books and other titles dealing with Texas and local history. Many of these items relate to the Nueces County/San Patricio County region. While the Tunnell Collection contains many standard Texana reference works, it also contains 2 document boxes of obscure local pamphlets, periodicals, maps, brochures, and other printed ephemera dealing with Taft, Sinton, Mathis and surrounding areas.

José Gallardo was the leader of a group of musicians known as José Gallardo and his Orchestra who performed in Corpus Christi and across South Texas from the 1920s to the 1950s. Eight photographs of the band comprise this small collection.

Abstract

This collection is comprised of documentation from the court case Cisneros v. Corpus Christi ISD. This case established Hispanic Americans as a minority separate from the white classification and helped undo some major systemic racism problems that still lingered a decade and a half after Brown v. the Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas legally ended school segregation.

Abstract

The bulk of the items are connected with Chicano movement struggles and activities chiefly in South Texas but also give glimpses to the larger fight for equality by Chicano groups in the rest of the United States. Rojas was a migrant worker before he was elected to be the Justice of the Peace in Robstown, Texas. He was prominent in founding the grassroots organization, FAMILIAS UNIDAS.
