Series X: Audiovisual Media, 1951 - 1998
Series X contains VHS tapes, U-matic tapes, Betacam and Betamax tapes, film reels, 45 and 33-1/3 phonograph recordings, audio cassettes, and audio tapes covering a wide variety of subjects and events. They include recordings of speeches and addresses, TV and radio interviews, and live events such as the dedication of the Dr. Hector P. Garcia Plaza at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and the Felix Longoria interment ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery. There are a significant number of recordings of American GI Forum (AGIF) activities, including conferences, founders’ banquets, board meetings, and conventions. Also in this series are addresses and speeches by Dr. Garcia—most notably his Spanish language address to the United Nations entitled “Proscription Armas Nucleares”—and interviews with Dr. Garcia, along with recordings featuring his sister Dr. Clotilde Garcia. Finally, there are several commercial recordings of music and spoken-word history programs that were of personal interest to Dr. Garcia. Recordings are in English and Spanish.
