His papers focus on the time he played for the University of Corpus Christi’s basketball team and later became the Presdient of the University of Corpus Christi.

Abstract

This collection primarily consists of photographs taken by Lloyd Howard of the Texas City Disaster and its aftermath, and “day in the life” style photos of time spent training at the Ward Island Naval Air Technical Training Center. It provides a unique dichotomy into the first half of 1947 on the Texas gulf coast at both its most normal and most tragic.

Abstract

Murphy Givens was a newspaper journalist who had worked in Alabama, Missouri, and Michigan when he came to Corpus Christi in 1981 to work for the “Corpus Christi Caller Times.” He began writing a weekly column on South Texas History in 1998. He worked as the Viewpoints Editor until 2009 and continued writing history columns until 2018. Givens published 18 books on Texas history and presented on KEDT recounting stories from his history columns.
