Arturo Vasquez served as a financial advisor to Hector P. Garcia’s American G.I. Forum chapter. His collection includes information about his personal, military, and professional life as a CPA. He served as a School Board Trustee for the Corpus Christi Independent School District and other municipal and business organizations. Hispanic-American civil rights during the middle 20th century features heavily in this collection.

This collection is comprised of documentation from the court case Cisneros v. Corpus Christi ISD. This case established Hispanic Americans as a minority separate from the white classification and helped undo some major systemic racism problems that still lingered a decade and a half after Brown v. the Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas legally ended school segregation.

Abstract Ward Island is a small body of land between Corpus Christi Bay and Oso Bay and is part of the city of Corpus Christi. Ward Island was named for developer John C. Ward who bought the property in 1892 to create a resort community. An economic depression prevented Ward from his quest, but the island retained his name.
