The Desk and Derrick Club was created in 1959 by Inez Lord Awty of the Humble Oil & Refining Company of New Orleans, Louisiana. It was the first organization for professional women in the oil industry. After 1951 many clubs joined to create the Association of Desk and Derrick Clubs. The goal of this international association is to provide energy education and professional development in the energy industry through a scholarship program. TAMU-CC Special Collections and Archives preserves records from the Corpus Christi and Alice Club, the Houston Club, and the Westbank Gretna, Louisiana Club. The records date from 1950 to 2019 and include scrapbooks, minutes, correspondence, publications, a charter, and bulletins.
