Abstract

These papers give a glimpse into the research of Patrick Carroll and contain many sources, manuscripts, and edits to his works. This collection also contains information on obtaining the Hector Garcia Collection which Patrick Carroll aided in.

Biographical / Historical

Dr. Patrick James Carroll, commonly known as Pat Carroll, was a history professor at Texas A & M University-Corpus Christi from 1976 to 2014. His main focus was in Latin American history and both taught and published books on the topic such as Blacks in Colonial Veracruz: Race, Ethnicity, and Regional Development as well as Felix Longoria’s Wake: Bereavement, Racism, and the Rise of Mexican American Activism which was awarded Best Book in Texas History in 2003. He also held positions such as Chair of the Department of Humanities and the Joe B. Frantz Chair. Dr. Carroll also helped Special Collections and Archives at the Mary and Jeff Bell Library aquire the Dr. Hector P. Garcia papers.
