Brandt Badger to Callie Badger, written 1 mile from Grey’s Post, 1862-12-12
Brandt’s division is still on the run, burning camp equipment to escape the pursuing Yankees. He writes of the desire to return to Vicksburg and visit friends, and of the death of many of his comrades. Russia has consented to offer propositions of peace. Envelope included with postmark, addressed to “Mrs. Callie Badger, Gonzales, Texas,” return address in upper left-hand corner from “B. Badger, Private, Capt. J.D. Brown’s Co., Waul’s Legion”.
