American GI Forum (AGIF) [National] Convention, 13th - Chicago, Illinois, 1961
Black and white and color photograph albums are gathered together in this sub-series. All albums were taken apart so that their photographs could be sleeved and rehoused in archival binder boxes. Any albums with the same title and date range are distinguished by the letters A, B, C, etc. The albums are grouped according to the following major topics: American GI Forum (AGIF), events, funerals, personal, and political. AGIF albums document various Forum activities, meetings, conventions, chapters, events, pictorial histories, queen coronations, and seniorette events. Event albums contain images from non-personal, non-AGIF events that Dr. Hector P. Garcia attended. Funeral albums cover the burials and services of a number of army, marine, and navy servicemen killed in action from 1966-1970. Personal albums document events and activities from Dr. Garcia’s private life, such as birthday parties, holidays, weddings, and other unspecified activities. Political albums are focused on events such as the 1972 Democratic National Convention, Dr. Garcia’s appointment to the US Commission on Civil Rights (USCCR), and visits and campaign stops made by famous politicians.
